POETRY CORNER

Meet Shannon Éilis
My name is Shannon Éilis. I am a poet and poetry editor with a first-class BA (hons) degree in Creative Writing and an MA in Poetry. I have experience in the creation and refining of creative work for both publication and performance. My aim is to strengthen the coherence and clarify the artistic voice of a poem for it to attain publishing standards.

My editorial work is currently a free service that includes: -
-
Developmental Editing - I assess the big picture of the poem. This includes analysis of the concept, theme, voice, style, imagery, poetic techniques and devices, consistency, and the emotional response or overall impact.

-
Line editing - I delve into further detail and examine each line of the poem for any grammatical errors. I will also adjust sentence structure and improve the overall organisation of the piece to enhance the flow, readability, and the authenticity of the poem.

As a working-class writer who focuses on the intergenerational trauma of poverty, I have an affinity for the poetry of other working-class individuals, as well as poetry that explores the taboo or the darker aspects of reality that encapsulate the human condition. However, I have experience editing a wide variety of poetic themes and concepts, so I am open and willing to edit any piece that needs to be refined for publication.
